I only subscribed to you about a week ago and I’ve read everything you’ve written about Cuba and your experiences so far. My boyfriend lives in Cuba and on days when he hasn’t had a signal to text me it’s nice to read this and know that I’m not going through this experience alone. Your writing is beautiful and more people should know about your story and what Cuban’s experience. Thank you for writing.
Thank you for reading and commenting, Abby! I’m so glad to have you as a reader! It’s definitely not an easy way to live. One of my hopes with this Substack is to connect more people to Cuba on a human level. It’s so wrong that most of us know so little about a country so close to us, filled with spectacularly beautiful places and exceptional people.
Thank you for continuing to share your story. We are holding a fundraiser for a social services centre in Matanzas tomorrow. We can't make a big difference in the whole island but we can make a small difference in the lives of a few people.
The collapsed electrical grid is a real thing, but it makes for a powerful metaphor too. I have no connection to Cuba, but somehow I do. Thank you again.
Carl, that is probably the best feedback you could ever give me. Thank YOU! Thank you for reading, for taking the time to share your thoughts, for caring what happens to Cuba. ❤️
Your postings are so touching; I love reading them. Keep your faith, your strength (of which you have plenty) and your sense of humor, to the extent that you're able to. There will be an end to all of this chaos, hopefully sooner rather than later. I love you with all of my heart.

When you add together everyone who is doing *something* it makes a huge impact!
